The Freedom Writers

In our ENSP2, we had watched the movie "Freedom Writers".

After watching the movie, we were asked to answer couple of questions and post it to this blog.

Question #1
Pick three students and write something about the variety of english each of the student use.
If I were to pick three, it would be...

Marcus

Student #1 Marcus
I think, for me, he uses gangster's english. I said gangster's because from watching the movie you'll know he is a gangster. He talks with the 'you don't know me' thinking. He is trying to say that 'don't try to show that you care even if your not'.

Jamal
Student #2 Jamal
It may look like they the same kind of english but I do think that he is using street english. It may be he's a gang member but I do think street english would be more appropriate name for what english he is using. A kind of english , I invented, that means teen english or they uses slang words or punk words to show they are cool.

Brandy Ross
 Student #3 Brandy Ross
She is using teen girl's english. The way she talk is like a sassy girl with her accent. Maybe because she grew up in the beach. So I could call this Beach girl english (if you know what I mean). Well, what I mean is they are the fashion-infused english.

Question #2
Analyze the english communication skill that the teachers, especially Ms. G, possessed.
The teachers are using american english but if I were to call it, i would call it the teacher's english. Teacher's english, if I would describe, is a kind of english strict old teachers use that terrorized students. Hehehe...
On the other hand, Miss G. uses the motherly english. She talk with care as if ther students were her children. This may be why her students soon opened their hearts to Miss G.

Question #3
How did Ms. G show or downplay her power?
I think she shows her power like by saying, "I know that you...", or " I am ...".
On the other hand, she downplay her power by first reaching out to the students. Then with his motherly english, she is always saying that her student can always do what they want to be and encourages them to follow their dream.

Question #4
How did the students acquire some sense of power?
At  first they show their power by not even reacting even though there is a teacher in froont of them. They try to break the teacher's, Miss G., momentum while she is trying to teach.

But after they had opened up to Miss G., they still acquire power because of Miss G, herself, motivating them. She tells them what they can, and push them if they insist they can't. This show how the students acquire a sense of power.
